Minneapolis, USA / St. Petersburg, Russia
What is your first cycling memory?
I have some great memories of my sister teaching me how to ride without training wheels. Later we would explore the area around our Russian “dacha”. Grabbing some snacks and riding little dirt paths, building sick jumps, getting lost, finding the way home. It was fantastic.
What is your favorite post ride/race meal or food?
The first sweet and sugary thing I can find. Oh wait, my coach could be reading this. Kale juice… definitely kale juice.
What was your favorite cartoon as a kid? Why?
The Simpsons. With its witty social commentary which I would sometimes yet rarely understand as a kid. But its characters were still hilarious! “Operator, give me the number for 911”. Classic!
Which race are you looking forward to the most in the 2017 season and why?
North Star Grand Prix. After moving from Russia I’ve lived in Minneapolis and St. Paul. It’s a place I call home and It’s so very special to race in front of a home crowd, and now in front of a local sponsor, HED Wheels!
While traveling across United States and around the world, what is the most interesting place you have had to spend the night?
I’ve been lucky to sleep In some really cool places, especially after realizing that comfort is not something you remember, but great views are. When hiking, or motorcycle touring I would find the best views and open sky, even if it meant sleeping on uneven, rocky ground. In the Lake Superior ridgeline I slept under the stars and watched the northern lights! I’ll never forget that.
